Success for Confey Under 12s
Our U12s produced a great display this morning to win their play-off match against South Dublin rivals Cabinteely Boys. Match was played in Ballycullen Park, home of Knocklyon Utd, and it was Cabinteely that made the better start and deservedly went one up in the opening 10 minutes.
The Confey lads, playing into a strong wind, withstood a further period of sustained pressure before starting to exert some of their own. This pressure finally paid off and two excellent goals late in the half gave them a 2-1 half-time lead.
Confey started the second half the way they finished the first playing some excellent football and two early goals gave them what was to be an unassailable 4-1 lead. To their credit Cabinteely never gave up and created a number of good chances of their own. Our defence again stood firm and in the last minute a wonderful passing move involving a number of Confey lads was finished off with an unstoppable shot to make the final score 5-1.
There was tremendous performances all over the field by the Confey Players. Well done to Manager Shane Whelan and all his Lads. Many thanks also to all our Supporters that were at the game.
Hard luck to Cabinteely Boys and well done to both Teams for playing the game in a wonderful spirit.
Tomorrow we have our U10B Team playing against Home Farm at 11am in Whitehall VEC knowing that a win or a draw will guarantee them Runners-up spot. Local rivals Esker Celtic have already won what was a very strong League, well done to them. Tommy Newcombe's crew have done really excellent so far to still be in with a chance of silverware at this stage
If you are wondering what to do on Sunday why not go along and support Tommy and his Team.
All the best to our U10s
