Confey V Leixlip Utd
Confey 0 Leixlip 0
First meeting between the 2 sides from Leixlip ended in a goalless draw. It was a typical derby game with tackles flying in all over the place.
Confey started the brighter and had the better of the first half. We could of gone ahead on a couple of occassions from set pieces with headers and volleys going inches wide. Neither keeper was tested throughout the entire game but the 300 strong crowd definately saw an entertaining game with 2 teams getting stuck in and playing good football when the chance came around.
Leixlip came into more in 2nd half and probably shaded it possesion wise but like confey in the first half they didnt really test our keeper. Leixlip had the ball in the net with about 70mins gone but the ref had blown his whistle well before the ball eventually ended up in the net.I think ref was knocked over so a resulting hop ball was the outcome.Leixlip also had another great chance but their striker headed the ball staright into our keepers hands from a well worked move down our left side.
Confey could of nicked all 3 points in the dying moments when a cross to the back post could of been headed in to a gaping net only for our player to lose track of the ball in the air -(he thought the cross was going in off the post).
All in all a draw was a fair result and we will look forward to the return game in the amenities. It was probably our toughest game to date this season and if we battle like that in our remaining games we should be pushing for a top 5 finish. Next match away to Boyne Rovers 4th January.
