Beggsboro V Confey 4th Dec 2008
A dissappointing night for Confey dropping 3 vital points against one of the struggling sides in Senior 1A. Confey started the brighter of the two teams with plenty of possession but lacking some composure in front of goal. Confey had 3 chances in the opening 20mins with Donnacha O'Donovan,Eugene Collins and Graham Kennedy all going close with the Beggsboro keeper making one or 2 good saves. Graham Kennedy had another opportunity on about 25mins when the Beggsboro defence had a lapse in concentration, Kennedy rounded the goal keeper who eventually pulled him down outside the box. A certain goal was on the cards yet the Keeper some how escaped a card. The resulting free kick came to nothing. Then with Beggsboro's first real attack they worked the ball well down the right hand side eventually sending a pin point cross to the back post for their winger to volley home from no more than 4 yards. It was a cruel blow to Confey who really should of lead before the home side nicked one. Beggsboro then started to dominate the remainder of the half however Keith O'Sullivan had little or nothing to do in the Confey goal.
The 2nd half was pretty even with neither side creating too much in front of goal. Then with about 15mins to go Confey had two great opportunities to draw level and even win the game. Firstly when a free kick was swung in from Brian O'Toole and flicked on by Archie Hunniball the Beggsboro Kepper dropped the ball only for the Beggsboro defender to clear off the line and secondly when Darren O'Toole found himself with only the keeper to beat and five yards from goal he managed to blaze his shot high and off the crossbar. Beggsboro managed to see the remainder of the game out quite comfortably with Confey growing impatient and not passing the ball particulary well.
Its a set back in Confey's aim for yet another promotion push but with 3 teams going up this year confey are still in the race to have another great season. Confey have 2 cup quarter finals coming up in the new year at home to Whitehall and away to Beggsboro and should be confident in going through to the semi-final stages in both competitions.
Next Sunday 14th December 2008 sees Confey FC take on Leixlip UTD in Catherines park, the first competitive game between the two local teams and if Confey manage to pick up 3 points in that one it will surely give them great confidence going into the new year. It might be worth mentioning that your support on the 14th Decemebr 2008 would be greatly appreciated and hopefully Confey can pick up 3 vital points against the DARKSIDE!
