Code of Ethics and Good Practice

Code of Ethics and Good Practice
The following has been adapted from information supplied by the Dublin District Schoolboys League.
Players:
1. Must give unconditional respect to match officials
2. Should play the game in a positive manner and display good sportsmanship and fair play
3. Should not use foul language under any circumstances
4. Should rise above opponents who use unfair or intimidating tactics
5. Should play to win, but remember winning is not everything
6. Should not criticise other players, as we all make mistakes
Parents and/or Guardians:
1. Should not coach their child from the sideline. This is the responsibility of the Coach and Manager. Too many conflicting instructions can lead to confusion
2. Should not criticise match officials, particularly in front of children
3. Should keep their goals and needs separate from their child's experience. Remember your relationship with your child will continue long after their competitive soccer days are over
4. Should model respectful behaviour for your child by refusing to tolerate negative personal comments about other Players, Parents, Managers or anyone else
5. Should applaud good play and sportsmanship by both teams.
Managers and/or Coaches:
1. Must respect the rights, dignity and worth of all persons and treat everyone equally within the context of the game
2. Must place the well-being and safety of players above the development of performance
3. Must develop an appropriate working relationship with players (especially children) based on mutual trust and respect
4. Must encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance
5. Must endeavour to ensure that the activities they direct are appropriate to the age group, experience and ability of the players
6. Must never openly criticise Match Officials
7. Should encourage players to shake hands with opposing teams before and after games
