Sunday Seniors vs Pegasus

Pegasus were the visitors for our Sunday Seniors this weekend. They were one place ahead of Confey going into the game. Confey went into the game missing a number of Players but started well and took an early lead with a goal from Archie Hunnibal. Pegasus enjoyed plenty of possession and grabbed an equaliser with a little help from a poor back pass by Confey. One all at half time.

Pegasus had the better of the early exchanges of the second half and it needed very good defending to keep the score at 1-1. Confey weathered the early storm and took a deserved lead when an excellent through ball, followed by a clever step-over by Pat Darcy, was taken on by Padraig Byrne who scored with a clinical finish. Both teams continued to have good periods of possession but Confey were creating the better chances and it was no surprise that they stretched their lead. An excellent passing move put Paul Denton in the clear and the midfielder used all his experience to draw the Keeper and calmly find the back of the net.

To their credit Pegasus refused to give in and continued pressing. A late corner was converted to make it 3-2 which heralded an exciting finish to the game. Confey's defence continued to stand firm and a long clearance found Dave Ferris all alone on the halway line. The Confey man headed for goal pursued by the whole of the Pegasus defence but found a late burst of energy to hold them off, go round the Keeper and keep his composure to slide the ball into the net. 4-2 to Confey. The final whistle went shortly afterwards. A very good win for Confey and a cracking game.

Seniors Kick Off 2012

Seniors Teams get their League Season going again after Christmas break. Saturday Major Team earn a very good point at home to Knocklyon. After being 2-0 down it needed a spirited fightback to salvage a share of the spoils. Goal Scorers for Confey were Brian O'Toole and Brian Holmwood.

A late goal by Archie saw our Sunday Seniors win an eventful game 4-3 at home to Beggsboro. Confey started well and probably should have been ahead at half time but it was the Visitors that took a 1-0 lead into the break. Confey dominated the early exchanges of the second half and took their chances to lead 3-1. The home Team spurned a great chance to make it 4-1 and were quickly punished by Opposition who scored two quick goals to bring it to 3-3 with just a few minutes to play. Confey continued to press and won a free kick just outside the box. A wonderful delivery by Barry Quigley was met by Archie whose header found the back of the net.

Beggsboro had good opportunity for a late equaliser but Confey held out for the win. A good three points to start 2012
